I am an interior designer not a Japanese design expert but like a lot of us Ive visited this magical country and I found it to be instantly captivating on so many levels.

Years ago when I first began studying Japanese garden design in Japan I learned how Japanese architecture also played a role in creating the landscape. If you were to look at the interior of a Japanese household the first word that comes to mind might be sparse. The Japanese way of life is based on some essential rules - firstly the layout of the room.
Experts say this is the year of Japandi interior trend and its not difficult to understand why. Although zen started as part of Buddhism its key teachings have been absorbed into everyday life in Japan. While a process may include a set of rules or stringent guidelines the concept of art is much more fluid and subjective.
Many of the features in Japanese homes refer to zen philosophy. In terms of design it contains organic elements but can have a human touch either curated or modified by hand. Its the opposite of traditional interior design with its ornate antique furniture and detailed embellishments.
Wabi integrates flaws of one kind. Modern interior design is hallmarked by clean straight lines and an uncluttered look. Each ones aesthetics focus on simplicity natural elements and comfort so its no surprise that were seeing more and more designers combine the two looks together and calling it Japandi aka Japanese and Scandi.
Its name comes from suki which means enjoying furyu elegant aestheticism such as waka 31 syllable Japanese poem tea ceremony and Japanese flower arrangement and sukiya means a house built as you like or a teahouse. This concept is beautifully reflected in Japanese interior design. It is the word that converts to a serene and peaceful atmosphere representing a cultural design which evolves around uncluttered and clean living.
